I will be as thorough as I can since you said specifically that you don’t know anything about dirt bikes. skip to the end if I wrote too much.

So the engine size I would suggest is a 150cc. Make sure you get a 4-Stroke so that you don’t have to mix gas and oil. The 4-Stroke also will have a more user friendly power band and better gas mileage. Now all you have to do is decide your brand and whether or not you want new or used.

I would suggest a new bike, so you know there’s no quirks to how it operates, and you’ll get the warranty. You cannot go wrong with Suzuki, Yamaha, or Handa as far as brands go. If you find another more attractive brand at a store, it is probably fine. The only exception to that is that there are many Chinese knockoff bikes, and though they look similar, they are much lower quality. The other brands I mentioned are Japaneze

So you basically want a new 150cc 4-Stroke Japanese-made dirt bike. And don’t forget to at least get a helmet if not also other pads and protection, because you will eventually crash. all riders do no matter how good they are.

If most of what you do in on road and not hitting the dirt then don’t get a dirt bike look into a 50cc scooter don’t need to have a motorcycle license to dive one in most stats, better on gas cheaper and ez to learn on. If you do get a real dirt bike i would say get one that fits your size maybe a 125-150.

A lot would depend upon how old you are and how big. If you are around 5ft3 then you could look at a ttr125, klx125 or a crf150f as these are all basic trail bikes. But if you are a lot taller and larger in size you may need to look at something more along the lines of a crf250x which is a trail bike with a few of the better things on it like the crf250r had but not quite as much like a full race bike. You could also look at a crf230f

Dirt bike engines have been used on ultralights, 80-125cc bike engines have been used on powered paragliders, but the rest of the bike except maybe the wheels would be useless for an airplane.

all these bikes are awesome machine with alot of power. im 20 and ride motorcycle since i was 5 and now i own a cbr 954rr and love it. im a big fan of honda but my first street bike was a ninja 250 when i was 14 great learner bike but that was the big cc bike that oklahoma allows under 16. my friends love their 600s But keep in mind that a used bike can be a good one if you inspect it very carefully (ei. O.E.M. parts, front plastic looks new and tail plastic looks old) things to watch out for

I bought the gsxr600 for my first bike, and its a great bike to learn on. and if you do drop it, thier are alot of places out there to get replacement parts.

Safety class or not, DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE AS A FIRST BIKE.

That’s like finishing your first solo flight in a 2-seat Cessna and asking if you should get an FA-18 fighter jet as a first airplane! Your dirtbike experience will help, but you can go faster in 1st gear on any of these than your dirtbike can do WFO, and you don’t have traffic and other distractions on the trail.

Buy a used SV650 first, and learn to ride it well on the street before you start thinking about a supersport bike.

i’m pretty sure it wouldnt be powerful enough… usually ultralight air craft engines are very like purpose made engines.. they cost a little more but they are lighter then your typical engine on your dirt bike..
im not sure on the final weight with passengers and cargo but i seem to remember 15 hp is like the smallest you can go… a para motor maybe your cheapest option to get into the air… and it doesnt take up a garage…

something of interest for you, the myth buster did a mcguver myth episode. i seem to remember it was a 10 hp engine on a ultralight… you may want to look it up.. im sure there is good info in it for you

None of them are better. Sport rider, and cycle world and all of those magazines compare all of the 600′s so you can read some of the articles before you make a decision.
All of them are great bikes and so similar in performance that you wont notice the difference, especially since you are a new rider.
Go to your local dealer and sit on all the bikes… for a good 10 minutes and see how they feel.
I would make my decision using the following three factors…
Comfort, price, looks. Find which one is the most comfortable, looks the best.. then see if the dealer is offering any special deals.
You cant go wrong with any of those choices.
