Boat Storage: Where You Store Your Boat Matters

April 13th, 2009 — 04:25 am
boats
No matter where you live at and how often you boat all boat owners must face the dilemma of finding boat storage sooner or later. Boat storage must be found before going on long trips, when bad storms approach, and when the winter starts to draw near. New boat owners often find this task intimidating and are not prepared to make a decision when the time comes. To avoid having to make a hasty, last minute, decision that could lead to your boat being seriously damaged or destroyed it is important that all boat owners begin planning for storage as soon as they purchase their new boat.

Many new and old boat owners choose to store their boats out of doors. Outdoors boat storage is popular with boat owners that have easy access to a lake where storing the boat on the lake or water is easiest and best. This will allow the boat owner and their family to have easy access to the water whenever they feel like taking a ride or going fishing. Having the boat stored outdoors on the water is extremely convenient and makes it easier to participate in last minute boat sports and water activities.

Boat owners who are not near the water or who are looking for long term storage solutions often store their boats on their own private property. In many areas this is usually the backyard. There are some areas in the southern United States where it is not uncommon to drive through an entire neighborhood and see dozens of boats sitting idle in backyards waiting to be used. Storing boats outdoors is usually done because of convenience and for financial reasons. Placing a boat outdoors on ones personal property is usually free and marinas and lakes usually do not charge much for boats to be docked permanently.

The downside to storing a boat outdoors is the elements. While many boat owners do not think the storage location of a boat is important at all there are others who have had their boats completely destroyed who will tell you differently. If an unexpected storm comes up and your boat is resting in the water it could easily be smashed to pieces right along side any other boat that is near it. When your boat is left sitting outdoors on your property overtime it will rust and deteriorate it as it is constantly exposed to inclement weather. This damage and deterioration will often lead to expensive repairs and in some cases it might be necessary to completely replace the boat.

An alternative to storing a boat outdoors is storing boats indoors at facilities that are specially designed for storing boats. These facilities are usually extremely close to local lakes and marinas making transportation back and forth easier to manage. In some cases the indoor storage facility will offer transportation assistance to their loyal customers. This is done to encourage boat owners to use their boats as often as possible without having to worry about the cost of transporting their boat back and forth between storage and lake front.

Indoor boat storage facilities are usually spacious offering boat owners the chance to properly maintain their boats. These storage facilities make it easy for boat owners to check their boats for damage and to even complete repairs. Some indoor facilities even boast their own mechanics making it easy for boat owners to hire someone onsite to complaint repairs to the boats. This space and feature becomes especially useful when a boat needs to be stored for long periods of time. Having an indoor storage space for your boat that can be used for repairs makes it easy to weather proof a boat before leaving it for a long period of time.

The major downside too many when it comes to indoor boat storage is the price. It can be extremely expensive to rent a large space for the storage of a boat. The price goes up if the storage facility offers climate control, extensive security features, and more benefits. Storage rates often increase along with the size of the boat making it extremely expensive to store large boats that are perfect for families. Even though the price of storing a boat indoors can be a deterrent for many it is often well worth the money. Indoor storage will help save you and your family money in the long run by helping to prevent deterioration that could lead to serious boat repairs being necessary in the future.

Even though it could be tempting to choose the cheapest boat storage option available this might not be the best choice for you or your boat. Where you store your boat can affect whether or not the boat you own remains in top condition for years to come.

How to Choose Between Indoor and Outdoor Boat Storage

March 20th, 2009 — 10:13 pm
boats
Boat storage is something that all boat owners have to worry about sooner rather than later. Most new boat owners experience a few moments of confusion as soon as they realize they need a good place to keep their boats. It can be hard to decide whether or not to store a boat indoors or outdoors. Both storage options offer benefits and negatives. In many situations the final decision is based upon what is easiest and most convenient for the boat owner.

Outdoor boat storage is often the most common and well known and popular type of boat storage. If you are a boat owner that lives near a marina or has easy lake front access then outdoor storage might be the best option. It allows you to easily access the water from your boat whenever you feel like it without having to go through the trouble of transporting your boat. Those who enjoy water sports and outdoors sports will find this arrangement more convenient than other options.

Some boat owners even store their boats outdoors on their own property. Depending on the area it is not uncommon to see boats sitting in backyards or front yards waiting for the families’ next trip to the local lake. Before storing your boat outdoors, take a moment to contact your boat manufacture to make sure the boat you have purchased will be safe outside for long periods of time. This storage option is free and convenient for anyone who owns their own boat but cannot afford indoor storage.

The downside of storing a boat outdoors is the danger of the elements. Rain, wind, and the constant water will lead to damage that can be expensive to repair. In some cases such as bad storms and harsh weather boats stored outdoors can be completely destroyed. There is nothing worse for a boat owner than hearing the news that their boat has been damaged past all hopes of repair.

Another downside of storing a boat outdoors on private property is that not all boats can be easily transported even if you live near the marina. In some situations you will have to pay yearly (usually in the winter) to have the boat moved to your home for storage. This can be an extremely expensive process since outside help will have to be hired to help with the transportation of the boat.

Indoor boat storage has recently seen a rise in popularity. Many boat owners who are tired of dealing with transportation issues have started taking advantage of indoor boat storage. In these situations many boats are kept in one storage facility that is usually quite close to, or part of, the local marina. These facilities make it easy for boat owners to get their boats in and out of the water.

Along with the convenience of being close to the marina indoor boat storage also gives boat owners a chance to take care of boat maintenance. Most indoor boat storage facilities offer large spaces for each boat stored on their property. The large amount of space offered by storage facilities gives boat owners the chance to have routine maintenance and repairs done quickly and easily.

The greatest downside of indoor boat storage is the price. Indoor boat storage is often extremely expensive since a large area is needed to store each individual boat. The storage rates often rise with the size of the boat. There are also additional fees for storing a boat in a heated indoor storage facility. The prices most indoor storage facilities charge can be more than some boat owners can reasonably afford.

The benefits and downsides of indoor and outdoor storage should be considered before making a final choice. It is important that all boat owners make the choice that is best for them and their family. Do not be influenced by too many outside influences, use your own situation and knowledge to help you make your final decision. Once you have gone over the options and made your choice between indoor and outdoor storage never be afraid to change your mind. If you have decided to take advantage of outdoor storage to save money but feel that your boat is being damaged by exposure do not hesitate to look into indoor storage facilities.

Choosing between indoor and outdoor boat storage can be time consuming. Checking into indoor storage options and finding outdoor storage facilities can take time. When you have made your final decision you and your family will be able to enjoy your boat for years to come.

How to Solve Your Boat Storage Problems

March 18th, 2009 — 08:47 am
boats
Owning a boat is a pleasure and joy for many individuals who love fishing and other water sports. Often, the only downside to owning a boat is where to store it. Boat storage can become an interesting, if not annoying, problem overtime especially during the winter months. Determining different ways to store a boat and different locations available for boat storage can help make storing a boat easier and more efficient.

The most common method of boat storage is outdoor storage. Many new boat owners place their boats in a local marina and forget about them. In fact, many boat retailers offer services designed to help new boat owners quickly get their new purchase into the water as soon as possible. Once stored in a marina the boat is easily accessible by anyone who wishes to go for a ride, enjoy some fishing, and spend some time relaxing on the lake or enjoying any other type of water sport available. The only problem with storing a boat in the water is exposure to the elements.

When storing a boat in a marina a boat owner is placing themselves at the mercy of the weather. Storms blowing up suddenly can severely damage or completely destroy boats resting on the water. Even when weather is not an immediate issue it can become one when declining temperatures lead to the water beginning to freeze and a general call to remove all boats from the water. This can be an extreme inconvenience to boat owners that do not have a place to store their boats outside of the water or who cannot afford to transport their boats anywhere even if they do have a place in mind for storage.

One way to avoid some of the stresses associated with storing a boat in the water all of the time is to store a boat on private property. There are many small boat owners who store their boats in their own backyards. In many cases these boat owners have their own methods available for transporting boats to and from the local lake or marina. This storage alternative is easy and affordable but can often lead to problems in the future. Even though the boat is not in the water it is still exposed to the elements. A strong storm can destroy a boat in a yard as easily as it could destroy a boat in the water.

A great way to solve the problems that often come with owning a boat and storing it is to take advantage of indoor storage solutions. There are now many different storage facilities in the United States that are dedicated to storing boats all year round. These storage facilities have been created with boat owners in mind and often offer conveniences and services that only a boat owner would appreciate. In many cases indoor boat storage facilities are available to all but the owners of extremely large yachts.

Most boat storage facilities are extremely spacious offering generous storage areas to their users. This means boat owners do not need to worry about their boat being damaged when it is packed into a storage area next to another boats. The boat storage areas are designed to be large enough to allow boat owners to perform all sorts of repairs and maintenance on their vessels without inconveniencing other boat owners. In many cases there are even boat maintenance mechanics and service staff on site to help boat owners whenever necessary.

Along with boat maintenance help indoor boat facilities also offer high tech security. Many indoor boat storage facilities have security staff that patrols the facility 24 hours a day. This will help ensure that your valuable property is not disturbed or damaged by careless individuals. Additional security features are also used to monitor who enters and exits the facility at all times and often access is restricted to certain hours of the day.

Most importantly indoor boat storage facilities often offer transportation services too and from marinas and lakes. In some situations the boat storage facilities are built near large bodies of water to make their locations more convenient for boat owners. These transportation services make boat ownership easy and enjoyable since it gives boat owners the opportunity to safely store their boats when they are not in use while being able to conveniently get their boats out and ready for use even at the last minute with no preparation being done on the part of the boat owner.

Boat ownership and dealing with boat storage can be a problem but with a bit of time and patience owning, and storing, a boat can become less of a hassle and more of a joy.

Boat Storage: Start Planning Before You Buy

March 16th, 2009 — 02:22 pm
boats
Hobbies and passions can have no end, as long as you have money to finance them. Many do not realize that money plays a major role in determining how far you can go with your personal hobbies; what you call a satisfying pastime can be extremely expensive especially when stretched over long periods of time. Many people get satisfaction from living life on their own terms. There are many water lovers in the world and being in private or close proximity to water means that you must try to go sailing, swimming, fishing or boating. In order to enjoy many of these pastimes having a boat of your own is either necessary or highly recommended. Owning a boat can make it easier to pursue your water related dreams but boat ownership can sometimes be a pain.

Buying a boat is very much possible for any family with nice standard of living. In the past only the extremely wealthy could afford boats but in the past years boat ownership has become a reasonable and realistic goal. The question that arises after buying a boat is where to keep the boat when not actually using it. Considering boat storage should occur long before the boat is owned. This is because the boat is very sensitive to the extreme climatic conditions and you naturally do not wish any harm to your boat for these reasons. Unfortunately, many people wait until after they have purchased a boat and the first big storm has blown in to decide where they should store it.

Thanks to today’s world, we have options available for just anything. There are many boat storage facilities available where ever the boat usage is in common or considered to be in fashion. Companies are always on the look out to make much so any major chain that has discovered the boat stratagem niche will be sure to get a foothold in any community that commonly utilizes boats. These boat storage facilities often charge a great deal of money which will remove the smile that came with boat ownership from your face and replace it with a frown. This expense is incurred because boat storage requires a lot of space and along with special care and cover to protect the boat from rust and other climatic harmful affects.

Boat storage should be first considered no where else but in your own house and this is because it saves you a lot in long run and your boat is always in front of your eyes under your surveillance making you feel good. The space used for boat storage in house is generally backyard and it should be large enough to accommodate and, if possible a construction of boat house is advised. This helps in keeping boat safely and all the worries regarding boat storage just woos away if a boat house is possible for construction. A boat cover is very essential while considering boat storage because it saves boat from unnecessary elements and keeps boat fresh as new.

Boat storage becomes a very complex process if the boat storage facilities are not in proximity to the house and that is why it is very important to consult with yellow pages before you consider buying a boat. Boat storage is possible also in many facilities available near the water bodies like dock, store houses, ware houses and even marinas. They charge an amount depending upon the size of the boat and other criteria they short list before checking in the boat.

Boat storage sometimes becomes too complex because there are many store houses which can accommodate the boat at nominal cost but do not meet the specifications required like the way marinas and dock does. So it very necessary that you do proper research and long term planning before taking the decision of buying a boat.

If you are having an extremely hard time locating boat storage then discuss storage with local boat owners. Most people are willing to discuss boating with a stranger that is obviously considering making the large investment. Find out if they belong to any boating clubs or communities which offer their members special privileges. Also, do not be afraid to think outside of the box. If you know anyone that owns a large warehouse that is not always in use ask them about renting the space for boat storage. Many people are happy to earn money on property that is doing nothing more than sitting around waiting for use. They will be happy to charge you a fee to let you store your boat during storms or the winter.

Boat Covers : Comprehensive Weather Shield

December 24th, 2008 — 10:24 am
boat
An exposure to bad weather is as troublesome for the boats as it is for the creatures. Wind, rain and dirt can ruin a boat’s interiors. Boat covers are essential for the weather proofing of your boat when it is stored and not in use. In order to protect the boat from problems related to weather, use boat covers. Each time the boat is stored, it must be kept within one of the durable boat covers. It is helpful to keep the boat in a novel condition.

The material boat covers can be made up of cotton/polyester, PVC etc. All you need is that the fabric must be waterproof. The wind carries dirt and other waste materials with it. For optimum protection the fabric of boat covers are made windproof and dust-proof. The dust can carry moisture, which can prove to be corrosive for the metallic parts of the boat. The boat covers consists of zippers to snug your boat, which can be used to close all the entrances for further protection.

The boat enthusiasts are very picky about the boat accessories. To cater to the needs of the choosy people, boat covers come in variety of colours and styles to suit their preferences. Boat covers, not only protects the boat against the weather but also it restricts the entrance of rodents. Rodents like rats and cockroaches gnaw away all the interiors. If the boat is exposed to these creatures, then they will give the boat’s interior a messed up look and stinking interiors.

The repairing can cost very expensive. So, it is better to prevent the boat. When the boat is not in use and stored with one of the durable boat covers, it avoids a lot of hassles pertaining to destruction of boat. With boat covers on, minor smash ups with other boats during handling does not affect the boat surface. Without boat covers a smash up can result in chipping of the paint, which can spoil the show. Keep your boat up-to-date using boat covers.
