I’m about to take my restricted bike test in the next few months and a moronic lorry driver has just written of my 125. It seems point less to buy another 125 when I want to upgrade once I have passed my test. So can I buy the 250 now and get it restricted?

You must be in the UK. I know that Hyosung makes a restricted Gt650
nope, there would be no way to prove a restriction to the police if the pull you over, short of swaping entire engines, I think you’re out of luck.
Rent or borrow a small bike from a friend and once you passed the test ride home with your big bike!
it cannot be restricted without removing 1/2 the engine as the restriction is on the maximum of BHP or engine size and the engine size is restricted to 125cc.. the only way you can do this is to remove the 250 engine and fit a 125 engine!
simply reducing BHP is NOT enough! it has to qualify on both BHP and engine size to be learner legal!
Until you have passed your A test, your bike MUST NOT be over 125cc, so restricting it isn’t an option.
The bike’s engine HAS to be 125cc MAX. You may not be wanting to drive around in something skinny that won’t draw many looks, however, consider these points:
If you rode around on a bigger bike with L plates you would look like a ****.
The weight of the bike would affect what little power you had, probably rendering it unusable.
It’s always best to learn on a lighter bike – you gotta learn how to corner and what not.
There are alternatives to this. Hyosung do ‘bigger’ looking 125′s, like their new Comet. Larger body, fatter tyre etc. These bikes are just over 2000 squid brand new. Or there’s the Honda Varadero – same as above, but around 3500.
If I were you I’d pick up a second hand run around to learn on, take your test then buy what your wallet and licence will allow.
Another important point: The new test has this swerve and brake to avoid manoeuver. If you research it many instructors think that it’s hard to accelerate to the required 30mph in the short distance with a 500cc! Imagine how you would fair in a heavier 125 – Honda and Hyosung included.
actully u CAN but youll find it hard to get insurance….
u fit a ”sidewinder” a leanable 3rd wheel.it changes the class from a motorbike to a trike..they were aroind in the 80′s,supprised you lot havent heard of them…very rare these days…link below for a pic..
scrool down and look..
or read the text here
”Another Jaymic design and development project was the Sidewinder; a leaning motorcycle sidecar that helped learner riders when the laws were changed in the UK to reduce the maximum capacity that a learner could ride to 125cc. This meant that learner riders with 250cc motorcycles would have to sell the 250cc bikes and buy a 125cc instead, unless their motorcycle was fitted with a sidecar. The patented Sidewinder would allow the motorcycle to lean into the corners and provide a normal ride feel.”
so there you have it…na na,na,na na lol..
Do you mean restrict it to 33bhp for after your test ? or are you thinking you can restrict it so it would have the same power as a 125cc bike so you can ride it and then take your test on it ?
Take the 125 badges off your wrecked scoot and put them on the 250.
Hi,just found your web-site when i google something and wonder what web hosting do you use for your website, the speed is more faster than my wordpress, i really want to know it.will back to check it out,i appreciate it!
Excellent write up. There are a few grammatical errors, but the content outweighs any punctuational errors. Keep up the great work man. I hope to read more from you!:)
