The 2010 Ford Fusion will have best in class mpg and gets up to 34 mpg. The Fusion hybrid will get up to 41 mpg:

are You looking for a family size car or just the most least expensive ot run fuel wise?
easy to check out mileage for any models in car magazines but take any manufactures claims with a pinch of salt? generally a smaller lighter car will use less fuel. diesel’s are more fuel efficient but the fuel in UK costs more and car has a premium too. therefore if buying form new may not make economic sense to run a diesel.
overall for say long term use for a young couple ( example only) a Ford KA has best in class lowest running costs with good reliability etc.

Of the ones I can quickly find via reviews…..

The Citroen Berlingo Multispace can apparently do 49.6mpg

Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTi will do around 44.8mpg

Renault Kangoo… can apparently do around 53mpg

The Volkswagen Polo BLUE MOTION can apparently do 74mpg combined, or 83mpg @ 56mph… BBC Top Gear drove one from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank of fuel during one episode of Series12.

BMW M3… more economical than a Prius
