Corsa Capital at Vauxhall dealers in London

December 31st, 2008 — 01:04 pm

London is chock-full of unique landmarks and Vauxhall have added another.  No not an addition to Saint Peter’s Heritage Centre, I’m on about a four wheeled Vauxhall, in this case the Corsa Capital.  Only by visiting a London Vauxhall dealer will you be able to pick one up, as Vauxhall aims to show its city car can take on the biggest conurbation in Britain.  To help you deal with not only the congestion, but the charge that goes with it, Vauxhall are enticing Londoners to the Capital – pun intended, with (deep breath): 15” alloy wheels, a CD player that’s MP3 ready, rear spoiler, body coloured bumpers, electric front windows and air conditioning to name but a few, for only a slight price hike over the standard model.

Of course the Capital is just one derivative of the all-new Corsa range and the new cars find themselves in the middle of the most competitive sector of motoring – the hatchback.  Crucially then, the new Corsa must score highly in likeability, drivability and price (ability?).As Vauxhall are pitching their Corsa against their biggest rivals Ford and VW it needs to be extremely good to become the best in its market segment. Those cute little guys in the advert seem to be enjoying themselves mind - these days you just can’t trust cuddly fabric characters though, so crucially what does it look like and what’s it like to drive?

As I am still the new boy when it comes to road testing cars, I am faced with the daily anguish of opening my letterbox to find a distinct lack of keys to the latest Ferrari or Lamborghini, with a “have this for a week” note attached from Mr Lamborghini.  I have however, had the joy of driving the new Corsa and I don’t use the word ‘joy’ lightly.  Firstly however an anecdote…

My own car is a Hyundai Coupe, the automotive equivalent to Kelly Brook – pretty to look at with racy curves aplenty and great handling (particularly dancing the Salsa).  However thanks to karma, the gorgeous looks come at a price - it’s very slow and drinks like Oliver Reed in his heyday.  Despite this fact, one rain-drenched evening when all the sensible people were fast asleep, I found myself meandering around the twisty back roads on the outskirts of Cardiff, when what looked like a B & Q shed with wheels pulled up alongside me.

It appeared the four youths had been on the sun bed, as there was a blue neon glow emanating from the shed and that’s when my inner eight year-old took over.{I strained the small rodent in its little wheel to run quicker than ever before and the engine jumped into action}.  As I left the shed and sun bed combo behind with Kelly’s wonderful handling, I thought to myself “nothing could handle this well”.  Low and behold six months later I was proved wrong.

If my Coupe is Kelly Brook, then the new Vauxhall Corsa is Kate Thornton.  The design doesn’t rip your eyes clean out or make you go weak at the knees but it’s still an attractive hatchback.vitally the Vauxhall Corsa has brain power as well and features:, ABS, EBA, DTC SLS and CBC.  Don’t worry about what the acronyms stand for, they all add up to give you a very safe hatchback, but most importantly for a city car – it handles brilliantly.  I drove a 1.2 litre Corsa derivative during my high-brow summer break to Ibiza and fell in love.

The island is split into the two best environments for testing a car: twisty mountain roads and city driving.  With this in mind I left my hotel high on the sun-drenched hillside and set off for the capital, Ibiza Town. The A/C quickly cooled the car, but I still felt the need to lean out the window and show the world the smug look on my face as I still had all four wheel trims.  I didn’t however shout “C’MON!”  The 1.2 litre engine was surprisingly willing and the car gripped as tightly through the hairpin turns as it did through the s-bends.

Hitting the main road towards the capital gave me time to reflect on the interior. The Corsa seemed to be well constructed with no irritating rattles or creaks which you seem to get in some cheaper cars, the driving position was also good giving me a decent chance of spotting the many crazy drivers and zombie like pedestrians.  At times, I really did think I was in Beirut, as no-one seemed to understand the old adage of ‘don’t crash into another car, it’ll do neither me nor you any good’.

Emerging unscathed with a combination of cheeky handling and dumb luck, I arrived at Ibiza Town, wheel trims and all.  Parked against the backdrop of a billionaires’ playground of yachts in the harbour, the Corsa seemed somehow prettier. The good looks appeared to me to fit in well with the nearby fashion houses and the vibe of the big city.As night time set in, the light weight steering system and ultra responsive gearbox came into their element.  At one point I took a wrong turn.  Well by wrong turn I mean turning into a dead-end street complete with drug dealers, ladies of the night and no La Policia in sight.

For some this may seem like a perfect night out, not for me and Kate though.  It was a ludicrous situation really, these burly druggies being crept up on by the Corsa, with its lop-sided grin and surprised eyes.  I’m pleased to announce that the excellent turning circle allowed me to deliver a swift three-point-turn and chirp off onto better climes within the big smoke. The next day with a heavy heart I had to return Kate to the rental company she truly will be the envy of that rental companies car park.

The small hatchback market is one of the toughest to conquer, but I really think Vauxhall have produced a worthy competitor.  When I think of the Corsa I think of chirpy, cheeky, cute and cuddlesome.Together with its handling this car is fun and ideal for the city environment.  So if you’re looking for a city car, remember the equation: city + fun - cost = Vauxhall dealer.  “C’MON!”  Ah damn it.

The Wonders Of The Paintless Dent Removal Technology

December 31st, 2008 — 01:04 pm

paintless dent repair

Paintless dent removal is a technology where a PDR expert uses specialized precision tools to reshape the metal to it’s original position, leaving the paint finish untouched. The dent is literally erased–like the dent was never there.

Paintless dent removal [could be perceived as a metal working art, as it requires a great deal of experience and skill to execute properly.|Paintless dent removal is a metalworking art that requires years of experience, patience and skill to execute perfectly.] Paintless dent removal specialists go behind the damaged panel and massage the metal back to its original finish.

Paintless dent removal is incredibly effective when your automobile’s paint has not been cracked or damaged. A dent is carefully massaged from the inside of the damaged panel, eventually resulting in an undetectable repair.

Also, paintless dent removal is especially efficient for damage caused by hail stones] that numerous insurance agencies use “hail teams” that “follow hail storms.”.These hail teams drive to places hit by hail to repair vehicles using Paintless dent removal techniques.

Paintless dent removal actually protects the value of your car. The paintless dent removal process gets rid of car damage like dents, dings, creases, hail damage and minor body flaws so the vehicle’s original appearance before]. Paintless dent removal, known as PDR, has recently become the preferred way of taking away small dents such as dings and hail damage. Paintless Dent Removal ( PDR ) is the technology of removing minor dents and dings without sanding, filling, or painting.

Paintless dent removal specialists profess that the paintless dent removal technology is the efficient] way to remove car dents. Others say it does not compromise the vehicle as normal vehicle repairs would. Paintless Dent Removal, as the name indicates, does not require the surface to be resprayed once repaired, which equates a substantial savings.

Don’t take a chance having an inexperienced car repair person do a lousy repair on your vehicle. Why take chances and risk having your car damaged by some amateur auto repairman?

Instead, decide on experienced paintless dent removal experts who are able to provide you with a comprehensive menu of services including door ding repair, hail damage repair, full auto detailing, windshield repair, and paint touch-up. .

Bicing Blues Not Such a Smooth Ride For The Launch of Barcelonas Bike Sharing System

December 28th, 2008 — 02:31 pm
bike
At the start of summer this year, the Ajuntament (Council) of Barcelona launched the first phase of a new public transport initiative that was designed to provide a cheap, convenient and environmentally friendly solution to an increasingly crowded metro and bus system in the city of Barcelona.

It seemed an innovative and progressive solution. Residents would register online and for a modest fee of 24 euros per year, order a 12 month membership smart card that would allow them to borrow a bike for up to 2 hours from one of 100 strategically located bike stations, outside metro and bus stops and heavy traffic areas in the main arterial zones of the city.

All users would have to do is swipe their card at their nearest bike station to unlock a bike from the rack. With a free half hour to return the bike to any station in the city, and a modest 30 euro cent fee for additional half hour increments, the idea seems affordable and clever.

But affordable and clever also seem to be the characteristics that have led to problems with the system. Encouraged by the offer of a half price registration fee until July 6th, 80,000 users had signed up within the first three months. Great to have a strong public response, but not so great when the system currently only supports 1,500 bikes.

Another major hurdle is an apparent underestimation of demand for return space in popular areas such as La Rambla and beach areas around Barceloneta. Users are reporting frustration when trying to return bikes at racks already full with no available return space, and little choice but to ride on and hope that there will be room for their bike at the next station.

Damaged bikes are also proving to be a hassle. Designed to be lightweight and easy to ride, many bikes are quickly rendered useless by slipping gears, faulty brakes and broken bells and lights.

‘Its not uncommon to roll up to a rack with several bikes, only be told by the screen that none of them are available because they’re broken’ says Gemma, who I meet at the bike rack at the bottom of Rambla de Raval.

‘Its also not uncommon to take a bike from the rack and have to return it because the gears are slipping or the seat wobbles. Several times this has happened to me and I’ve returned it only to find it was the only available bike.’

Whilst the Bicing website has a real-time count of how many bikes are available at each station, the stations themselves don’t. Gemmas options are then to walk on to the next station and hope that there are available bikes, or wait at the station in the hope that someone will return their bike shortly. ‘Not exactly convenient if you have somewhere to be’ she says.

Gemma doesn’t appear to be the only one with frustrations. On a hot Sunday afternoon I watch as a que of three Bicing hopefulls sigh as another rider passes their rack without returning their bike. The next three bike racks I pass, none of which are empty, also have people waiting.

Lucas, second in line tells me he’s only been waiting 20 minutes. Then adds that in that 20 minutes, he could have arrived at his destination if he had caught the metro.

Although support trucks can be seen circulating the city, to check and maintain the bikes and to re-shuffle distribution if one stand becomes full and others are left empty, but they don’t appear to be working fast enough to cope with the demand.

Another user, Daniel tells me that he doesn’t use the bikes when he is going to work, a meeting or anything important. ‘They’re too un-reliable, so I only use them on the weekend when I have time to spare’ he says. ‘It’s a good idea. A nice way to travel around the city but I don’t think the original purpose of Bicing was meant to be for recreational use.’

Daniels speculation is supported by the words of the Spanish Minster for the Environment, Cristina Narbona when during a publicity event in May she visited the Bicing rack in Plaza Catalunya: ‘it is a good measure for combating climate change and making a contribution towards sustainability in the major cities’, she said.

She added that combining use of public transport systems already in place, Bicing would help to reduce emissions caused by the citys residents. A valid motivation perhaps, but if the reality of the system is inefficiency and unreliability, is it really possible that Bicing is going to last long enough to be able to make a difference?

Early trials in Amsterdam and Cambridge in the UK were abandoned when theft of the bikes and poor management saw the system collapse before it could catch up in enough popularity to make further investment in the idea a possibility.

In an article published by the Spanish newspaper El Pais, a spokesman for the Barcelona de Servicios Municipales says ‘I dont believe that there is a serious imbalance between supply and demand. In any case, the service is still not 100% up and running.’

That may be so, but this in itself raises the question of why the release of Bicing was not better planned to cope with the response from the public? Originally, stage one and two of the plan was to see the release of only 750 bikes. Ahead of schedule, Bicing had completed more new stations and released more bikes than the expected dates.

It seems at the very least, the Adjuntament seriously underestimated the demand for the niche of the public transport system the bikes were designed to fill.

Barcelona isn’t the first European city to launch a public bike sharing system. Models such as the one in Paris, due to be released on July 15th, will be launched with an initial release of 10,600 bikes and 750 stations, set to be doubled by the start of 2008.

Unlike Bicing in Barcelona, the system in Paris is a prepaid scheme. Users must not only register their credit card details, but they also pay an upfront security deposit, and upfront ‘credit’ for bike rental, which be topped up when the user runs out, before they can rent again. The bikes are also fitted with a lock and alarm system, which are activated if the bike is not returned on time, to deter theft and damage of the bikes.

The system is also more expensive in Paris, with half hour increments after the first one for free being charged out at 1 euro. Organisers of Velib, which means ‘free bike’ in French, developed the Paris model from a previously launched trial which was first successful in Lyons.

Advertising company JC Decaux, operator of both systems reported high start up and development costs in Lyons, but after a couple of glitches, the system is now running successfully, leading to the development of the model in Paris.

One of the biggest problems in Lyons was the theft of almost half of the original fleet of 2,000 bikes, but this led to the establishment of the upfront security deposit which Paris will be enforcing from day one of its operation. If a bike is not returned within 24 hours, the deposit will be forfeited and the users card de-activated.

It seems that by placing more responsibility of the users of the system, the company has managed to induce a reduction of damage and theft of the fleet. Today the system in Lyons is running with double the fleet size it started with, and less loss of profit due to misuse and theft.

The Paris branch is being funded largely by prepaid advertising space, allowing the company to launch the project with a much larger fleet and relatively short turn around time for increasing its size by next year. Clearly, the organisers have learnt some valuable lessons and are preparing for a smoother launch this month in Paris.

Whilst it would be unfair to expect the Barcelona city council to have the resources and experience of JC Decaux, we can only hope that the Ajuntament is learning from its mistakes, and that public interest in Bicing will remain long enough for the council to catch up with supply and demand. With plans to extend operations to include bike rental to tourists in coming months, Bicing has its work cut out to sort out these initial problems.

Before leaving with her bike, Gemma says to me ‘I hope it works out, because this city is really made to be experienced on a bike. Its so nice to be riding around in the sun with the fresh sea air.’

The public’s response really shows that people want to use the service. Lets hope the Ajuntament of Barcelona can lose the training wheels and allow Bicing to ride smoothly on into the future.

Mitsubishi – Still A Contender

December 28th, 2008 — 03:32 am

I used to work with a guy who told me that his wife worked for Colt Cars in Cirencester England. I remember at the time saying to him “Who the hell are they!” Which I suppose was a bit impolite but I thought I knew most car manufacturers and had never heard of them. Luckily he ignored my rudeness and explained that Colt Cars were a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors, who I had heard of, and were established largely for the purposes of importing and distributing Mitsubishi vehicles in the UK.

I had forgotten that Britain used to have strict import quotas on foreign vehicles in a vain attempt to protect British manufacturers from the threat to their market from foreign imports. It wasn’t until the British public realised that British cars were in fact useless that they started buying foreign cars by the thousand which spelled the end of the road for the majority of UK manufacturers, sad but true.

There was a small backlash from people of a certain generation against buying foreign cars particularly Japanese ones but when their Morris Maxi’s and Marinas finally rusted into oblivion they begrudgingly grasped the nettle and now wouldn’t be seen driving anything other than a Micra or Yaris or indeed a Mitsubishi Colt.

Mitsubishi have had mixed fortunes over the years with some successful models and of course you can’t really mention Mitsubishi without talking about their successes with the Ralliart division and the whole Evolution phenomenon. Apart from this Mitsubishi history is fairly complex and they have in the past formed alliances with companies which you would not have expected such as Volvo and Chrysler.

Mitsubishi Corporation is a huge concern in Japan of which Mitsubishi Motors are a subsidiary of and with a history that dates back as far as 1917. The Mitsubishi logo (the three diamonds) is over one hundread years older than Mitsubishi motors. It was chosen by Yataro Iwasaki who was the founder of Mitsubishi. Apparently this represented the badge of the Tosa Clan which had first employed him and his own family emblem was three diamonds. The company name Mitsubishi is in fact two words combined the first one Mitsu meaning three and Hishi which refers to the diamonds in the log.

Mitsubishi are currently the seventh largest car manufacturer in Japan and seventeenth in the world which puts them as fairly large but not huge by any standards. Mitsubishi’s main problem has been a lack of models to choose from but in the last few years they have worked hard to address this and now have a fairly large range covering most sectors of the market.

After working with Chrysler since the 1970’s Mitsubishi were then involved with Daimler Chrysler until around 2005. I guess this was a little rude but I though I had heard of most car manufactures and I didn’t know these guys at all. The latest Mitsubishi Lancer received a good reception and Mitsubishi has also now joined up with Peugeot and Citroen to produce the 4007 and C-Crosser these will be sports utility vehicles based on the Outlander. The Outlander itself boasts favourable fuel economy combined with the lowest C02 emissions in its class.

The Shogun or Pajero whose name is rumoured to be rude in Spanish is another vehicle which has ensured Mitsubishi’s success over the years. The most recent incarnation is much more polished and is this is now aimed at the luxury sports utility vehicle market.

A lesser known fact about Mitsubishi is that Jackie Chan has had a long association with the company so with him on their side I guess they will always be a contender!

Volkswagen Polo - The Small Car to Beat

December 28th, 2008 — 03:32 am

A recent TV commercial for the Volkswagen Polo featured a singing terrier dog that was strutting around full of self-confidence whilst it was a passenger in the Polo but as soon as it left the car for different surroundings it became a nervous wreck. The closing caption of the commercial read “Polo Confidence.”

I guess they were conveying the fact that the dog was unhappy when removed from its comfort zone. The same could be said for people too although maybe not to the same degree as the poor dog. Cars mean a lot to some people and they often feel immersed in their own little world listening to their favourite song and safe from harm.

This feeling can be hard to achieve in a small car but thanks to its solid build quality and good insulation VW appear to have managed it with the Polo.

For many years the Volkswagen Polo was the benchmark by which all small hatchbacks were measured. Today the competition has just about managed to catch up and if you are buying a new car the Polo doesn’t quite have it all its own way. On the other hand though, with an illustrious 23 years of production behind it and more than 500,000 Polos sold in the UK, the choice of used examples is huge, with prices starting at just a few hundred pounds.

These days a budget of £1,500 will get you an early “mid-life model” Polo. Introduced in September 1994, its looks were changed very little until February 2002 when the new “round-eyed” Polo hit the showrooms. These early cars do have some downsides. VW equipment levels were particularly sparse in the mid-1990s and only top spec CL models came with power-assisted steering as standard.

It’s also best to avoid the rather under powered 1 litre examples. They are cheap to insure but in other areas they dont make the grade. Performance from the 45bhp engine is not terribly good and cabin noise levels are high because the engine is working hard all the time.
A better bet is the 1.4 or 1.6 with 60bhp and 75bhp respectively, both of which also gained power-assisted steering as standard from October 1998.

The reliability of VW cars is legendary, but like a lot of legends sometimes the truth is quiet diffrent. The Polo scored badly in the J D Power customer satisfaction surveys of the late 1990s, being less highly ranked than the Ford Fiesta and even the Rover 600. Owners complained of problems with gearboxes, early failure of front discs and pads and even rust spots on door frames. These problems are not on every car but they should be checked for closely when buying a used example.

On the plus side the little Volkswagen does drive well. It has a more solid feel than many of its competitors and interior space is good. Minor switchgear has a reassuring quality feel about it, and if serviced correctly the engines rarely cause problems.

People looking to combine a compact car, automated gear box and power steering will find the VW Polo. Both the 1.4 and 1.6 litre cars are available with a four-speed automatic box. It’s worth paying extra for the 1.6 as the 1.4’s lack of power can cause upshift problems from first to second gear.

In 2000 the VW Polo was given a facelift. While external changes were minor, larger clear-glass headlamps and deeper front spoiler, there were bigger changes under the skin. Effectively a completely new model, these cars have a wider front track, giving improved handling, a fully galvanised body and antilock braking and power-assisted steering as standard.

During this time the engine line up was changed.4 litre unit was boosted to 75bhp. Volkswagen introduced a new diesel three-cylinder engine as well.4 TDI, also found in the Audi A2 meaning the Polo at last had a diesel engine to rival the offerings from French rivals Peugeot and Renault. With 75bhp and bundles of torque, it runs a 1.4 petrol engine Polo close on acceleration and is still capable of more than 60mpg.

Car makers such as BMW and MIni have come close but the VW Polo still sets the standard for small cars.

Japanese Used Car Auctions Are Affordable For Anyone Searching For A Car

December 28th, 2008 — 03:32 am

online car auction

In the last several years, buying vehicles at motor car auctions has become a more widely used approach. Attendees can bid on all kinds of vehicles, from cars to recreational vehicles, and even motorcycles. In addition to the better pricing that is customary at auctions, many people also enjoy the fact that they can get a vehicle without the hassles of dealing with a car salesman. If you are in the market for a Japanese brand of vehicle, then you might want to look for a Japanese used car auction, as they are becoming more commonplace.

While all kinds of different auctions are getting increasingly popular, from the online car auction sites to the functions held at car auction houses, it seems the Japanese car auction events are gaining in popularity even faster than other types. Part of the reason for this is the general popularity of the Japanese cars these days because of their overall reliability and because they get better gas mileage than many American made vehicles.

Because of these factors, many more people are starting to consider Japanese models, as they represent some of the best values on the market today. Combine that with the prices that people can get through a Japanese used car auction and it makes a lot of sense to try to locate these special types of used car auctions in your area.

There are many different types of vehicle auctions these days that will often feature Japanese car models, as well as many others brands of vehicles. A great number of the cars that are sold at any kind of car auto auction are seized cars and repossessed cars. These are cars that have been seized by a governmental agency because of some type of illegal activity on the part of the owner, or they have been repossessed by the financial lending institution because of failure to pay on the debt.

No matter what type of public car auction you attend, whether it is for a used Japanese car or a collector car, there are some basic things that must be understood about how all motor car auctions work. First of all, you need to either have cash, a cashier’s check or a pre-approved loan before you can even register at the auction and participate in the bidding.

The reason why you have to have the money upfront is that all sales at auto auctions are final and you are expected to pay for the vehicle as soon as the auction is over. Because sales are final, you also need to be confident in your ability to spot any problems that a used car has during the brief inspection time that you will have before the bidding starts.

The bottom line is that a Japanese used car auction has the potential to help you get our favorite model of Japanese vehicle at a better price than you will find anywhere else. The tradeoff is that all of the cars that are sold through used car auctions are sold “as is” and they don’t come with any kind of warranty or guarantee. And sales are final, so once you win the bid, any problems with the car are yours to take care of without any support from the seller.

How to Utilize Bicycle Classified Ads

December 28th, 2008 — 03:18 am

Buying a bicycle is a little bit different than buying a car. For most people, a car is a means of transportation. Most cars are similarly constructed and are simple to use. A bike is not. There are styles that require different specifications and sometimes a “one-size-fits-all” does not work. Before you jump into the bicycle classifieds and begin purchasing, you should first do some research.

Bicycle classifieds can be anything bike related, which can be found in a bike forum, bike magazines or even in the local paper. The two main classifications of bicycles are either road bikes or mountain bikes. There is a big difference between the two. A biker can ride a mountain bike on the road or on a bike trail, but the frames and tires are not designed to work effectively out of their environment.

The first thing you have to decide is what type of biking you’ll want to indulge in. Although both are great forms of exercise, There are different skills required for mountain biking as opposed to road biking. If you are unsure of the difference, then think of movies and races you have seen where the rider is zipping down a highway. That is road biking; a form of biking  about speed and endurance.

Mountain biking involves a great deal of endurance as well, but it is over rough terrain such as mountains, dirt tracks or even ramps. When you are looking at bicycle classifieds, you’ll want to pick out a bike that can withstand the force of landings, has a sturdy frame and has wide tires that can grip the ground effectively. However, in order to find the right bike that suits your lifestyle, you may have to do a little research.

There are many useful resources, such as the bicycle classifieds, that provide a great deal of information to any type of buyer. Many bike magazines offer articles and reviews of new bikes that can help you decide on your purchase as well.  Another great resource is the local bike shop. You may not buy a bike, but you can take a look at the models and ask a salesperson for their opinion.

You may not find what you need in the classified section of your local newspaper. Should this happen, consider going to a website such as www.mtbr.com and check out their bicycle classifieds section. After you register, you can contact the ad owner and ask them questions about any bike you might be interested in purchasing. You can also pick up great accessories and protective gear for a great price.

Car Choice Reflects Presidential Vote

December 27th, 2008 — 10:25 am
car
As we await the results of the biggest US Presidential Election we have ever seen, I have found an interesting article on how car choice reflects how Americans vote.

Kelley Blue Book Market Research surveyed almost 12,000 US car owners and how they planned to vote in the election. They found that owners of larger trucks and traditional luxury cars are more likely to vote for John McCain, while owners of hybrids and station wagons are more likely to vote for Barack Obama.

Backers of Arizona senator McCain typically own American brands – GMC (61%), Chevrolet (60%), Buick and Dodge (58%). McCain voters are also more likely to drive luxury brands like Lexus and BMW.

Barack Obama followers prefer imported vehicles, with the most popular being the Mini with 70%, Subaru (61%) and Saab (59%).

McCain supporters are most likely to drive full size trucks and SUVs, while Obama voters drive station wagons, hatchbacks and hybrids.

Rick Wainschel from Kelley Blue Book said “Car ownership says a lot about a person, and can even be an indicator who they are likely to vote for”. I do agree with this to an extent. While all this data may seem like a sweeping generalisation, some of it does make sense.

Sales of domestic and large trucks (McCain) are higher in traditionally Republican ‘red’ states whilst import and hybrid owners are predominantly located in Democratic ‘blue’ states.

Wired Blog claims all American brands like GMC and Chevrolet, as favoured by McCain followers, represent a blue collar ethic and fit with McCain’s image as a war hero with years of experience.

Throughout the campaign, Obama has stressed the importance of renewable energy, so it’s not surprising that eco-conscious hybrid car owners would vote for him.

So while some of it makes sense, I’m sure there are a lot of exceptions to the rule. I imagine a lot of American car choices reflect personal budgets and need for space rather than their voting preference.

Reviewing The Warrantech Auto Warranty Coverage

auto extended warranties

“I estimate that the WCPSOnline website has helped us to be over 40 percent more efficient over the last two years,” explains Warrantech VP Link Wiley. “But it is not just about cutting our costs. The cycle of authorization, repair and payment is shorter, so service centers save time as well. Essentially, the customer gets faster service, the service centers get paid quicker and we are able to keep the pricing of our warranty plans competitive.” By modernizing their operations, this highly esteemed warranty company is able to improve customer satisfaction through process efficiency. They work with dealerships to offer new car warranties, but they’re also marketing to people who are looking to extend their used car warranties as well.

The most popular plan offered by Warrantech is the Repairmaster. The “Powertrain Coverage” plan includes the engine, turbocharger, transmission, drive axle and transfer case components. Or you may choose the “Select Coverage,” which includes all powertrain components, as well as electrical, steering, air conditioning and brake components. The third plan offered is the “Deluxe Coverage,” giving you everything in the Select Plan, plus cooling, front/rear suspension, fuel delivery and enhanced electrical components.

There are also optional surcharged plans to accommodate vehicles that get a lot of wear and tear. For example, the Commercial Use plan, the Seals and Gaskets plan (for vehicles with over 80,000 miles), the Enhanced Electrical plan and the Conversion coverage plan (for recreational vehicles). With all plans, you’ll receive travel/towing bonuses.

Warrantech extended warranty coverage offers everything consumers need from a warranty company. They give up front details on their site (like executive names and company history), they offer several levels of coverage to choose from, they have a proven track record for success, they’re AM-Best and BBB approved, and their customer service is often touted. You can get coverage for 1 year/12,000 miles up to 7 years/100,000 miles at an affordable rate, but you’ll have to contact them online for an extended warranty quote.

The one downside to Warrantech is that you have to go through their approved network of dealerships. Not everyone feels comfortable with this, since some people prefer family or local mechanics. If you don’t have extreme loyalty to a certain mechanic, then the Repairmaster is certainly a plan to consider, since you can buy coverage for wear and tear, as well as gaskets and seals, while also receiving travel reimbursements! If you’re the sort of person who needs peace of mind, then the extended warranty program will be well worth the money for you.

Water For Gas Exposed

December 27th, 2008 — 02:53 am

With rising gas prices of late, people are becoming more interested in getting every last mile out of the gas that their car uses. For instance, two common ways to save fuel are to employ more efficient driving strategies (or hypermiling) or to organize some form of car pooling. One idea that is designed to get better fuel mileage is to create a hydrogen generator. There are plenty of products on the market now that show you how to create such as system. This article will cover the basic principles behind the method and what to look for in such products.

The hydrogen generator that many of the these products refer to is also known as a water for gas generator. The system splits water (H2O) into it’s constituent elements hydrogen, hydrogen and oxygen (HHO) through electrolysis.

Electrolysis in this system is simply a jar with a mixture of water and a substance that makes the conductivity better. Two terminals, generally made of metal, like platinum, are placed in the water. When an electric current is passed to the terminals this passes through the water solution causing a chemical reaction. The resulting chemical reaction causes hydrogen gas to go to the negative terminal and oxygen gas to go to the positive terminal.

The hydrogen gas that is created is passed into the inlet manifold of the car. Adding hydrogen gas into the carburettor has the effect of improving the efficiency of the fuel (gasoline) entering the carburettor. This is thought to increase the amount of miles you get per gallon of gasoline.

Most people agree that adding hydrogen to the gasoline mix can improve the mileage you get from your automobile. However, for those that debate whether these systems really work the question of whether the quantity of hydrogen gas that can be produced can make a real difference. Or they question whether the energy needed to create the hydrogen gas, that comes from the cars battery which is charged by the engine, is not simply being used in another way thus diverting the consumer from the fact that they will need to replace their battery more often or that.

The people selling these products disagree with these comments and believe that their methods can make a real improvement to the amount of gas you need to use each week. and this will save on your gas bills over time if there is an appreciable increase in your car's mileage per liter or gallon. A number of these products also include additional information that teaches you how to be more economical in your driving habits so if you take this information to heart, this may also be saving you money on gas consumption.

There are plenty of these products on the market nowadays, close to 50 last time I looked. Nearly all detail the same method. Some of the information products seem to be very similar, which implies that the creators of these products have bought the rights to the same product. Or possibly they have reworked the idea to create a new book that they feel is an improvement on the others.

You will find all of these ebooks come with aguarantee that can vary from 50 to 60 days. So if you decide on one of these products then try to install it into your vehicle as quickly as possible. Check the changes in your fuel consumption, if you are not happy with the changes then apply for a refund. For unbiased consumer reports on the leading water for gas conversion kits visit http://waterforgasreports.com, including a report on water4gas.

Aussie Pensioner Wins Ageism Case Against Irish Car Rental Company

December 24th, 2008 — 08:31 pm
car
An Australian man has just won a settlement in a landmark age discrimination case against an Irish car rental company after being charged an extra fee for being over the age of 70.

Anthony White tried to hire a car in Ireland 2 years ago when he was in his early seventies and was charged a EUR25 fee. He was also told he would not be able to rent a car on his next visit as he would be over 75.

White took his case to Ireland’s Equality Tribunal who ruled in his favour that the policy amounted to age discrimination. Irish Car Rentals Ltd has since changed the rule and says the decision will now be made on a case-by-case basis involving assessments of age, health, driving record and insurance coverage.

A senior driver surcharge is pretty common with car rental companies – you may have read a previous blog here about it (Too Old to Drive A Rental Car?) Some suppliers charge extra if drivers are over a certain age, others have a maximum age limit for renters and some require additional documentation (like Irish Car Rentals are now doing). The surcharge is applied to cover higher insurance premiums as older drivers as seen as higher risk.

Does this case mean we may see an end to senior driver surcharges? Is it age discrimination to charge older drivers more as they are seen to be a higher risk?

In that case, surely it is also age discrimination to charge someone under 25 a young drivers fee since they too are seen as a higher insurance risk and more likely to have an accident?

In the case of Mr. White, he has been driving for 50 years and felt it was unfair to blanket all older drivers.

I do agree with this and think the company’s new policy is fair – it depends on each individual’s circumstances and not their age. Will other car rental companies follow suit? We’ll have to wait and see.

Final thought – one article I found about this was entitled “Old Man wins age discrimination suit against Irish rental car company” – “Old Man”? Surely that is age discrimination in itself?!

Boat Covers : Comprehensive Weather Shield

December 24th, 2008 — 10:24 am
boat
An exposure to bad weather is as troublesome for the boats as it is for the creatures. Wind, rain and dirt can ruin a boat’s interiors. Boat covers are essential for the weather proofing of your boat when it is stored and not in use. In order to protect the boat from problems related to weather, use boat covers. Each time the boat is stored, it must be kept within one of the durable boat covers. It is helpful to keep the boat in a novel condition.

The material boat covers can be made up of cotton/polyester, PVC etc. All you need is that the fabric must be waterproof. The wind carries dirt and other waste materials with it. For optimum protection the fabric of boat covers are made windproof and dust-proof. The dust can carry moisture, which can prove to be corrosive for the metallic parts of the boat. The boat covers consists of zippers to snug your boat, which can be used to close all the entrances for further protection.

The boat enthusiasts are very picky about the boat accessories. To cater to the needs of the choosy people, boat covers come in variety of colours and styles to suit their preferences. Boat covers, not only protects the boat against the weather but also it restricts the entrance of rodents. Rodents like rats and cockroaches gnaw away all the interiors. If the boat is exposed to these creatures, then they will give the boat’s interior a messed up look and stinking interiors.

The repairing can cost very expensive. So, it is better to prevent the boat. When the boat is not in use and stored with one of the durable boat covers, it avoids a lot of hassles pertaining to destruction of boat. With boat covers on, minor smash ups with other boats during handling does not affect the boat surface. Without boat covers a smash up can result in chipping of the paint, which can spoil the show. Keep your boat up-to-date using boat covers.

9 Tips for Selling your Boat Fast

December 24th, 2008 — 09:55 am
boat
Without doubt, the world of boating is a huge, engaging and interesting one. One of the most interesting features is how to sell your boat fast and gain maximum financial benefits.

Now if you are really interested in selling your ‘water craft’ and need some proven ideas to guide you, then I have good news for you. I advice that you approach boat selling with cautions to avoid being cheated.

For the remaining part of this article, let me showcase couple tips to sell your boat fast, starting from today.

Tip #1

Get smart knowledge of the best time to sell your boat: Does this sound weird to you? Having smart knowledge of the right seasons before selling your boat will boost your bottom line. As an example, most boat buyers hardly open their wallet for boat during or middle of winter season.

Avoid selling at very cold seasons unless you want to sell at a low price. On the other hand, you can get the best price for your boat just when the boating season begins. This is a smart marketing move because lots of people are always looking to buy a boat then. Apart from the fact you will likely sell your boat for good price, you will avoid a lot of the marketing cost that you would spend during the winter months.

Tip #2

What is the market willing to pay? The next point is to find the best possible price an average buyer is willing to pay for your boat. How can you accomplish this?

Firstly, research the boat’s worth, by getting advice and appraisals from a competent boat sales professional.

But if you don’t want to pay a professional, then check with the marine blue book value. Simply change the price predicated on the accessories plus depreciation for your boat. If you add any new accessories or some resurfacing such as carpeting, make sure to compute that and all of the boating accessories that you are going to provide with the boat.

Tip #3

Study your competitors. Always remember you’re not alone in the game. There are many competitors, just as some boat buyers may opt for buying a new boat instead of buying yours.

Therefore, you must set a very competitive price based on features that potential buyers may really desires. For example, if you find out that many similar boats (both old and new models) lack certain features such as radio, GPS, fish finders, you may add them to your own boat and let the potential buyers know this.

Tip #4

Use smart advertising techniques. Displaying a mere small add in an obscure corner of a daily newspaper may not get you many good inquiries, if any at all. Most boaters now use the Internet to search for their preferred boats. As a result, to win the game, advertise your boat by displaying both the profile and photographs of different angles of the interiors and exteriors.

Make sure your pictures are good-looking quality pictures, studies have proven that a profile with professional pictures command more attention and help to sell a boat faster online.

Tip #5

Get a boat broker. Not everyone can stand the rigor of showing boats to potential customers and answering their questions. Why don’t you contact a broker to do the ‘dirty job’ for you? The difference is 10% or 15% commission the broker will earn – but he will get the job done very fast and without any hassles to you.

However, insist to know the methods that the broker will use to advertise your boat. The best medium is to use the Internet so as to attract a large percentage of buyers as fast as humanly possible.

Tip #6

Be patient. Judging by normal standards, you may have to wait for three to six months to sell your boat. So if you want to advertise it yourself, start early and display on sites where listing are allowed for several months. However, with some luck, you will sell your boat sooner.

Tip #7

Boaters love clean boats. Apart from adding new features, make sure you clean your boat very well. Using soapy water and a handful dab, start cleaning from the exterior to the interiors. Clean off every mold, mildew and rusty stain. Everything must be thoroughly cleaned and replaced back properly after they’re completely dried up. I strongly urge you do this before you add new features and advertise you boat for sale.

Make sure the storage is cleaned and organized and get rid of any odor from the interior. This should be accomplished at the time of cleaning the boat. However, many people miss out on this vital aspect. Apart from cleaning and replacing rusty and leaking clamps and hoses, ensure the stove, cushions and refrigerators are all in working order. Also, remove every item from the storage lockers to avoid giving buyers the wrong impression that your boat storage is inadequate.

Tip #8

Do not be rigid on pricing. It’s good to sell at the best price, but let your customers’ interest be uppermost. Put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself this question, “If I’m buying this boat, what special deals will easily sway my interests to buy this boat rather than other boats that are similar?”

Tip #9

Consider doing a survey. Having considered every tip that will help you sell your boat fast, nevertheless, it’ll be futile to get loads of potential buyers coming to check your boat, their minds ready to issue you a check – but they stopped because something ‘bad’ was discovered: The buyer discovered your boat not in the best working condition!

Most times this is beyond the competence of the boat owner. So to avoid disappointment, do a survey to determine the working condition of your boat before listing. Survey cost in the region of $10 per linear foot, which means that a 20ft will cost $200.

If the survey returns a clean bill of health, you can even use it to dangle a sweet carrot before buyers to get better price.

Happy Selling!

Enjoy the Ride by Your Complete Biking Supplies!

December 24th, 2008 — 12:10 am
bike
Owning a bike demands complete biking supplies. It is important that you gather information on how to select the best style for your needs and get a good fit.

The thing that would be on the forefront of your mind before completing your biking supplies is having the right bike for you. First, you will need to decide what you want to use the bike for. It is also a consideration to take where you will be riding your bike most, on road, off road, or both. Through this question, it will help you determine the type of bike to purchase. There are five basic styles of bicycles in three classifications that you need to be familiar with:

• Road bikes. They used to be known as the “ten-speed,” however road bikes now vary from 12 to 21 speeds. Contained by this classification of bikes are touring, racing, and sport bikes.

• Touring Bike. This bike is not built for speed; rather, it is intended to make simple rides for long haul. A touring bike is an exceptional bike for long distance riding. The drop handlebars gives ease good control and allow for multiple hand positions. Twenty-one speeds will take you over any type of incline you will meet and support brakes can stop you even when you’re forcefully loaded down.

• Sport Bike. This bike falls under the category of the touring and racing bike. This is not as light as a racing bike, however, more responsive than the touring bike. The sport bikes drop handlebars that offer comfort and control .Its aerodynamic design allows for faster speeds. If you are into taking rides of 10 or more miles while turning up the strength by adding some speed, this bike can take you there.

• Racing bike. This bike is made for race, sporting a smooth. It is also thin and ultra light frame. A short wheelbase lets the bike to respond to the slightest movements and 12 or 18 gears will get you. It will keep you at top speed. If you are into winning races, this is the bike for you.

• All Land Bike or Mountain bike. This type of bike is tough. It is built with a strong frame, straight handlebars and fat, knobby tires. It tackles the rigors of off road riding. The upright riding position on the bike makes it comfortable while providing you leverage for steep inclines.

• Once you know which type bike you desire, ensure that the bike you choose fits you appropriately. There’s effectively two ways to accomplish a good fit. If you want an ideal fit, for about $50, have a quality bicycle shop that will compute your bike size using a computerized program called the Fit Kit. They will take several measurements such as length of your legs; torso and arms then give you a printout of your measurements. It will also give you the frame height and length that will best suit your body.

The second best way to get a good bike fit is to follow these guidelines such as determining the frame height. You should have one to two inches of advance between the top bar of the bike and your crotch. You should also have three to four inches if you are going to be riding on off-road terrain.

If you want to be a little more precise, measure your inseam. Straddle the bike; lift it up until the top bar touches your crotch. Subsequently, you should measure the distance between the bottom of the tires and ground.

These are just some of those numerous advices you can think about in purchasing a right bike for you. In this sense, getting the right bike for you will lead you to achieve right biking supplies too.

Information on the History of Paphos and Car Hire in Paphos

December 22nd, 2008 — 03:02 pm
car
The capital of Cyprus used to be in Paphos until the enlargement of other cities on the Island. Paphos has continued to have its share of the developments in Cyprus, and thus an International Airport was erected to turn the small region into a tourism hub.

Paphos has a population of less than 100,000; but its collection of Antiquities as well as historical places has caused it to become a bustling region in Cyprus.

Paphos is divided into two main regions, the residential district of Ktima and the Kato region which consist of the seaside and the medieval ports. The Kato Paphos region is where the hotels and most of the other tourist destinations are situated.

The best time to travel to Paphos is the summer time; as this ensures that you take the advantage of the weather and the beaches. The hottest month in Paphos is August when the temperature can be more than 35 degrees, and the humidity is very low along with the water relatively warm all throughout the day.

The winter months are usually rainy. December and January are the coldest winter months in Paphos. The summer time is the busiest season in Paphos, because of the relatively high inflow of tourists from all over the world. The spring and early fall seasons are also some of the best times to visit Paphos.

The Paphos international airport is the main route if you wish to get to the region. Cyprus airways and Air Holland are some of the few airlines that fly the route. Travelers coming from major European countries will have to have a stop over before boarding a flight to Paphos international Airport.

Travelling to Paphos by boat is not allowed, as there are no legal ports in the region to transport international travelers. Travelling by bus can only start after reaching the airport, while renting a car is the most viable option from the Airport. There are several hotels and accommodation options available in Paphos.

Booking a car rental Paphos service is very easy. You can make reservations with a trusted rental company, which would be on a stand-by at the airport for your arrival. Cars should be rented at no extra costs, and the rental company should contain fleet of cars that you can choose from to satisfy your needs.

Most of these are visible right from departure from the Paphos international airport. While driving through the seaside, one can also see a collection of different hotels of low/medium class as well as more classy ones.

One should know that car rental Paphos services are not standardized; hence prices may vary from a company to another. You will need to find out the average costs of the entire car rentals company available and with this you will know the actual amount of money that you will pay. Car rental Paphos services include your direct transportation from the airport to some tourist attraction sites.

The rental company can supply you with information on where exactly you are going to and how you can enjoy the best of your stay within such sites. You can feel free to ask questions about the city of Paphos from owners of the car rental company. They should be willing to give you rules and guidelines that tourists

Thinking Of Getting Boat Insurance?

December 18th, 2008 — 10:47 am
boat
Boat insurance can be obtained from several sources. Do your homework before buying your boat insurance, but be certain that you get it. Exhibitors as mundane as boat insurance agencies and safety equipment dealers share floor space with custom yacht decorators and sea kayak dealers.

Needless to say, a company which knows everything about the potential risks and dangers involved in boating will be able to serve you better by helping you determine what type of boat insurance coverage you need. You can find affiliate programs devoted to health insurance, auto insurance, boat insurance, long-term care insurance, and many more. A few minutes later you will receive an estimated quote for your boat insurance.

If you are interested to learn a little more about boat insurance online quote you are welcome to visit my website. There are many different kinds of insurance companies which are more than eager to sell boat insurance policies to you. Having a boat insurance means you are protected from such kind of dangers.

This is where a boat insurance online quote can really make a big difference. It’s a good idea to get boat insurance quotes when you have decided on the make and model of the boat, or when you are ready to purchase. Finally, before you complete the deal, it is highly recommended you have comprehensive boat insurance in place.

This really is one of the best ways to receive a quote for boat insurance. Boat insurance carriers had five times the number of claims in California as in Alaska, Maine and Michigan combined. Various types of boat insurance are also available and many boat loan companies will insist that you take out their own boat insurance as part of the boat loan requirements.

But how do you know which type of boat insurance will be the best for you. If waiting is not a problem then there is no reason why you should not be able to get a decent boat insurance quote. There is one way to know which boat insurance deal is best for you, and that is by learning how experienced the insurance company is with regards to boats.

You should also check with your boat insurance company to see if they have regulations that may affect your coverage. Here’s an example: Since you live in Nebraska, boat insurance probably isn’t your main livelihood, or flood insurance either, so most of your customers probably don’t know you can get these kinds of coverage for them along with their tractor insurance. Also, agents that specialize in boat insurance will be able to help you understand any language specific to boats that you may not be familiar with.

Basic improvements to your boat insurance rate are not all that hard to accomplish. Personal boat insurance is essential for boat safety and security. Now boat insurance and licensing fees aren’t the reason somebody gets a boat, unless they are a masochist, but it is an important part of boat ownership.

Needless to say, a company which knows everything about the potential risks and dangers involved in boating will be able to serve you better by helping you determine what type of boat insurance coverage you need.

Various types of boat insurance are also available and many boat loan companies will insist that you take out their own boat insurance as part of the boat loan requirements. Boat insurance carriers had five times the number of claims in California as in Alaska, Maine and Michigan combined. This really is one of the best ways to receive a quote for boat insurance.

But how do you know which type of boat insurance will be the best for you. Many of the boat dealerships, whether it be new or pre-owned, have a finance manager who can help you with the boat loan process, and in many cases can also help you out with the insurance – you are going to get boat insurance aren’t you. It’s a good idea to get boat insurance quotes when you have decided on the make and model of the boat, or when you are ready to purchase.

Here’s an example: Since you live in Nebraska, boat insurance probably isn’t your main livelihood, or flood insurance either, so most of your customers probably don’t know you can get these kinds of coverage for them along with their tractor insurance. There is one way to know which boat insurance deal is best for you, and that is by learning how experienced the insurance company is with regards to boats. Boat insurance can be obtained from several sources.

There are many different kinds of insurance companies which are more than eager to sell boat insurance policies to you. Personal boat insurance is essential for boat safety and security. Having a boat insurance means you are protected from such kind of dangers.

Buying Used Vehicles – Beneficial or Not?

December 14th, 2008 — 11:39 pm

To buy a used car or not to buy one:  that is the question. Getting a Free Automobile Insurance Quote Online For Your Car is a good place to start.

Autos come in many different sizes, colors, models, and makes. Nissan, Mitsubishi, Kia, Toyota, Daihatsu, Mazda, Honda, Mercury, Hyundai, Ford, BMW, Volkswagen, Subaru, Daewoo, Mercedes, Chrysler, and Rolls Royce are a few of the different brand names.

Cars have nationalities too, if you only please. They may be from anywhere around the world. These vehicles, like people, grow old too. They are, however, different from people in that they don’t seem to attach any importance to celebrating their birthdays. One distinction of cars is most important, however: used versus new.

It all comes down to personal preference as to whether or not you are going to get a new or a used car. This why you should check out free car insurance quote. For some people, it could have been fortune or misfortune for them to buy a few used cars through the years, although glib salespersons refer to them, as reconditioned rather than used car.

One great thing about buying used instead of new is the drastically lower cost. There is no need for you to invest for quite bigger amount of money just to have one.

Keep in mind when purchasing a used car that the car you purchase is a good one that will not have a lot of problems making it more trouble than it’s worth. You must see into the maintenance practices of the previous owner and other such car history to make sure if the car is well tended or not.

You should get advice from friends and family when choosing a used car. Even though previously owned, you must insure that it is currently in good shape. If you have the opportunity to purchase a used car from someone who has provided proper care, you should consider yourself very lucky.

Save yourself time, money and headache by having the vehicle checked out by a mechanic before you agree to purchase.  It could be that you’re hearing an engine that is malfunctioning or damaged in some way. Its a good idea to check first.

This is the conclusion. Any car owner knows that cars can bring you a lot of happiness or misery, so here is some advice you can use to purchase a used car to put in your collections.

First of all, it makes no sense to buy a previously owned car, if you can afford a new car. It will mean a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth on your part, unless you are a good do-it-yourself mechanic. However, unless owning an expensive new car is necessary for you, don’t go wild and rush out to buy one.

Second, try to assess the convenience that it can bring you, if it has. The fact is, there is forever the opportunity that it can convey to you mainly if it is in its proper condition. You will just bear the headache if you cannot use it anymore because of your several complaints about it.

You will have the final say. If you do ultimately decide to buy used, you need to be willing to take on the consequences of that decision that may come down the road. Finally be sure to read about free on line automobile insurance quote.

Government Car Auctions Are Great Source For Auto Deals

December 14th, 2008 — 11:39 pm

car auto auction

It is really no secret that virtually all of the various government law enforcement agencies, from the local level to the federal level, routinely have car auto auction events. Even though these auctions have been going on for decades, many people simply do not know where to get information about them. Since government car auctions can be a great place to pick up a used car at a fraction of the market value, it makes a lot of sense to become informed.

Many people are only interested in a government car auto to get a reliable car for the family and save some money in the process. However, there are some people who turn big profits by frequenting these government auctions, snapping up all the deals they can, and then turning around and selling these same vehicles at their used car dealership for twice the price, or more, of what they paid at the auction.

Dealers who buy multiple cars from government car auctions are not bandits. One of the things that many people fail to realize when they first attend one of these auto auctions is that all of the cars are sold without any kind of warranty, or in the “as is” condition, and that all sales are absolutely final.

For the car dealer who uses a government car auction to get a number of cars for his dealership on a regular basis, this means that there will be a percentage of the cars that are in need of a considerable amount of repair work before they can be resold. Most of the time, these dealers have a staff of mechanics that can deal with these problems, so in many ways it can be better that the dealers get these cars that have hidden problems because they can handle these issues more easily than an average consumer can.

For people who have the skills and equipment to work on cars themselves, a government car auction can be the perfect way to get a car at a price that is almost a steal. But, if you don’t know a lot about the mechanical workings of a car, then it might not be quite as wonderful. The car you end up bidding on and winning may be reliable, or it could be a lemon. Just keep in mind that it is the responsibility of the bidder to determine the condition of the vehicle before they start bidding on it. Once you are awarded the winning bid, you are committed and the car is yours.

You will find that you will get the most unbelievable prices at the government car auctions if you attend one that hasn’t been widely publicized, since few people will be there to bid against you. Do some detective work to track down the information on the local government auto auctions, instead of waiting around for ads about the events. If you put in the time to get the car auto auction schedules, then you will probably end up saving a huge amount of money when you are ready to bid and buy.

Useful Considerations When Picking An Extended Warranty Service

December 14th, 2008 — 11:39 pm

extended warranty plans

Customers who like to be prepared for everything should purchase extended warranty service, especially if the automotive warranty is only for 3 years/36,000 miles. For a good car that has been taken care of, most trouble surfaces around the 80,000 mile mark when new transmissions, new brakes, new calipers or inner gaskets and seals are required, due to regular wear and tear usage. Therefore, it’s important for consumers who are looking for an extended car warranty to search for comprehensive coverage that includes “wear and tear” and lasts long enough. It’s equally important that the vehicle being purchased is free from defects as well.

First, consumers should check to find out who is backing the extended warranty service. Is it an independent company or the vehicle manufacturer? Generally, manufacturer-based used car warranties are ideal, known for the easy-to-use guarantee. With an after-market extended car warranty, the owner will need to read the stipulations to ensure that everything is covered.

For example, some companies require that owners call before the work is done. Some companies require regular oil changes and fluid top-ups for work to be covered. Depending on the arrangement, sometimes the company pays the auto mechanic directly, whereas other times the warranty company pays the car owner back later. Reading and understanding the agreement is crucial in preventing unpaid claims.

As a secondary step, find out if there are any limits on where you can take your vehicle. Some extended warranty service plans mandate that consumers return to the dealer or to a web of company-certified mechanics for service. This may or may not be a big deal. If the consumer has no loyalty to a particular mechanic, then this might not matter. Although, it’s good to know these kinds of things before getting the work done! Additionally, some extended warranty plans ask for the consumer to pay the bill and send the receipt in for reimbursement, which can take months in some cases.

At the end of the day, it’s up to the owner whether or not extended warranty service is needed. Some people are perfectly comfortable setting money aside to save for possible repairs, whereas others want to feel that they can call on someone to help, no matter what happens. Extended warranty plans may not be essential for every computer, iPod or blender purchased, but for a car worth $10,000 or more, it’s certainly a smart consideration for that extra peace of mind.

Auto Enthusiats Treasures Classic Auto Auction

December 14th, 2008 — 11:39 pm

motor car auctions

There is just something about seeing a shined and polished classic car rolling down the highway that gets everyone’s attention and that sparks all kinds of wonderful memories. For those who love to restore and tinker with some of the vintage vehicles that so many people enjoy gawking at as they speed by, a classic car auction can be just the place to find the special set of wheels to impress the neighborhood.

Classic car auctions have long been a favorite type of event for car lovers of all ages to attend. Before the bidding gets underway, which can get rather heated with an enthusiastic crowd, there is a period of time when people can meander through the displays of the vintage models and appreciate the timeless and elegant lines of the cars that will soon be offered on the auction block.

The classic car auction events are considerably different than the average public auto auctions, which are more common and easy to find. The public car auction events primarily feature seized cars, repossessed cars and salvage car components. Rarely will they have the kinds of vehicles found at a collector car auction.

In the case of public auto auctions, people hope to find a decent car at a good price that will get them to and from work. Seldom will there be much of a bidding war on the very average and ordinary vehicles that are seen at government auto auctions and the like. But all the rules change when attending a collector car auction with an enthusiastic group of avid car collectors who know all about every model and who are looking forward to either starting their own collection or adding to one they already have.

Even if you are not planning to bid on any of the vintage models that are being sold at an auction for classic cars, they are wonderful events to attend. In one place you can check out a wide range of cars from many different eras, which are in immaculate shape, having been lovingly and attentively restored, and are sometimes an improvement over the original model.

Because the market for the classic, collectible cars is a fairly tight market and there is so much interest in the vintage vehicles that are either still in great shape or that have been restored, a collector car auction is not the place to look for a bargain. If a particular model of a classic car is rather rare or in high demand, then there could be an intense bidding war that will drive the winning bid much higher than any Blue Book estimate.

But, there are also instances when you can get a super deal on a vintage vehicle at a classic car auction, as opposed to dealing directly with the owner of a collector car. In the end, the kind of price you pay will depend a great deal on how well attended the collector car auction is and if someone else is determined to drive away with the same vintage vehicle that you have your sights on.
