How many miles should you ride a bike for if you want to lose weight?

♥ Nichole[never gives up]♥ asked:

I am 16 and overweight. I am buying a bike Friday. I am 5ft and 168 pounds. I rode a bike 3 miles Monday and it inspired me to buy one for myself. I also play ping pong for about a hour a day. I am eating 1,500 calories a day and my BMR is 1585.7 With playing intense ping pong a hour everyday, how many miles should I ride a bike a day to lose weight? Thanks.

well first if your going to ride a bike you should consume some more calories or you will have more health problems like you should eat about 3 thousand calories within 1 day
and you should ride a bike 4 miles to the spot then 4 back

do jogging or running instead in order to enhance cardiovascular benefits at the same time to burn more calories.. well you have to run for 25 to 35 minutes and then do also some weight-training exercises..

an hour of vigorous cycling will equal about 20 miles/850 calories.
if i were you, though, i would start with 10 miles (or half an hour) and then increase the intensity and duration as you begin to get into better shape.
don,t get discouraged though if you do not see an immediate weight decrease. cycling is awesome for building muscle in your leg so you will probably just replace fat with muscle rather than losing it, resulting in potential weight gain (but it will be healthy weight that will assist you in burning more fat.)
    hope this helps.
    and good luck :)

Long hours doing cardio doesn’t help you to lose weight. You can see a change by adding bicycling to your routine. This is going to help you burn extra calories.

However, staying at the same speed or cycling for a distance is not going to help you get to your goal. Your body will soon adapt to what you’re doing and burn less calories.

Therefore, it’s best to use the bike in intervals. Set a timer on a watch cycle at lower speed for 2min, and then crank it and cycle at a faster speed for 1min. Using intervals in any type of fashion is the best way to maximize your calorie expenditure as well as not allow you body to get used to what you’re doing.

if you are overweight and want to lose weigh you should add weight into your mix. because if you are simply doing cardio, you might lose weight but then you will not have tight toned areas. this is how weights help. they will tighten your skin. i dont know how over weight you are but the more you are your skin will become lose as you drop lbs. anyways i would add weights into what you are doing. you won’t regret it!

You have to come up with some type of a reward system, this will help keep you motivated. One of the best things to do is make a contingency contract. Stating what you want to do, who will help you do it, and what do you get for doing it.

Then also try to find a well balance diet program. My friend did this one diet program where the average weight lose is 7 pounds in 9 days. It might be the thing you are looking for, I know it’s well balanced. If you want e-mail me and I can tell you more about either of these.
