tator asked:

What would it be compared to an outboard or inboard prop boat?

Jets are usually around 40% less efficient at putting the power to the water compared to props BUT jets are very well suited to shallow water also it completely depends on engine and prop/jet combination. The best jet or prop in the world won’t work without a good engine.

Jason is correct. I just thought since you added or seemed to be concerned about boat efficiency, I would add in

yes, as a propulsion. jets can give up to 40% to standard props.

But my jetboat (and others I know well) get about 2-4 mpg on a jet drive.

This places it between most outboards 1/2 to 2 mpg and inboards 5-8 mpg owners I know of. This is considering boats of 19-25 foot size. Ample room and accoutrement for 6 folks. I have a 23 foot bowrider.
