First thing is to find someone who knows motorcycles to check them out so you do not get one that will be a money pit in repairs.
Craigslist.com is a great palce to start. Lots of them there but you better be ready with cash in hand as they go quick. I would start used and small. Something early 90′s to mid 80′s, and no bigger than 500cc. You’re just starting out so you don’t want a huge rocket. A 250 is a great start, but in a few weeks you’ll want a bigger one. I have a Honda 450 and it’s perfect.
Try to find a standard style bike. They’re more upright with your feet below you, not in front or behind. Rice rockets and cruisers are do-able but a little tougher to learn on.
Yeah craigslist, and definately find someone that knows something about bikes, cuz then as the other guy said you won’t be stuck with a money pit. like for example Tires, on a car you can get all four for 100 bucks on a bike you have one ***** on each tire and you’ll need to spend 300 to replace both of them.
Dodi here is the deal. All the 125cc – 250cc cycles and scooters have been bought up by the I’m gonna get 80 mpg crowd so the traditional starting point into motorcycling has been badly skewed away from the the buyer. It is at present a sellers market. Cheap is not going to apply. Go to a dealer and see whats on the gravel part of the lot. A honda rebel or a Yamaha Virago 250 either one would make an excellent starting bike. You will grow out of this in about 6 months and want to move up to a 500 or a bit larger. Buy a helmet, gloves, and a jacket. Try not to waste your money on a mo ped, go ped, junk ped or any off mainstream brand. You be stuck with it when its trade in time.
