Of course, I’m not talking about a brand new car or a classic car. Just a good ol’ super-cool sports car to impress the girls and anyone when I’m driving by. But if possible, also a car with very good acceleration and speed, and with good mileage per gallon.

98-02 Camaro Z28 or SS. The 5.7 LS1 V-8 makes gobs of power, the cars handle great and if you get a 6 speed you can get decent MPG with them
It is VERY possible to find an early 90′s model Nissan 300Z in your price range.
For $5K, pretty well anything you’re prepared to have more time sitting in the shop than on the road.
umm thats gonna be really hard to find
A Mazda Miata. Great car, fun to drive and (if cared for properly), lasts forever. I am driving my 1995 Miata and it looks almost showroom new. Yet its book price is about $3,000 (and no, my Miata is NOT for sale!).
1991 through 1997 Miatas (the ones with the pop-up headlights) often sell under $5,000.
My advice: ignore the year of manufacture. look at the mileage and how much the owner babied the car. An older Miata that has been well cared for is a better deal than a newer one that has been abused.
bought a 1995 GST (turbo) eclipse for $3500. Got into a wreck and the insurance gave me $4750. Awesome car. Sunroof. Leather.
u could buy a peace of crap
I have a 86 Nissan 300z i’ll sell ya for 1400 it runs very well i’m doing some suspention work on it now cause i just bought it and it’s shot. but it will spin the tires taking off 1st, bark them when you hit 2nd and 3rd if you dump the clutch……….asking for a performance car with good mpg is silly do you want a sports car or not?
Cool sports car for less than $5K.
Good acceleration and speed AND get good MPG.
I do this research as soon as I figure out all you can eat diet and still lose weight thingy.
seems like ur question should have a simple answer, but to me it depends on what part of the country you live in. i mean if your on the east coast something cool and impressive is like a mercedes, bmw, or jaguar. im in the tx so a cool ride has a wider window. it could be an acura integra that you have modified or a ford freakin mustang gt w/ some serious balls and custom paint. in tx 5k goes alot further than anywhere else in the country. (anywhere that matters anyway)
Honda Del Sol.

I have one it rocks. Bought it for three grand. The top comes off goes in the trunk. It gets 35 mpg if you drive fast and much more if you don’t. If you want it to be fast off the line get a manual obviously. Either way they have really good acceleration around 70 mph and up.
If you want to go faster than 110 you need a chip, because it does have a governor. But parts are cheap as hell for them. Other than brakes, go figure.
Also the rear window roles up down.
Everybody always fights over riding with me when we go places because it is such a fun car. My friends have beamers, audi’s, mustangs, and people double lap it so they can ride with me. Pretty solid for 3K.
You will need to throw down a couple hundred for some new speakers if you want it to be really sick, because the factory system *****.
But yeah man. I already decided whenever I drive out this engine I am just going to crate something new into it. Very fun car.
Look on they’re on there evey other week or so.
Insurance is nothing. I pay about $40 a month. Full coverage is stupid, the car isn’t expensive enough to get it.
Have fun and drive safe. I think that car might be a good way to die if you are a crappy driver.
So let me get this straight…..of course not a classic or brand new car, but…
- a good ‘ol super-cool sports car
-something to impress the girls, or anyone for that matter
-very good acceleration speed
-good gas mileage
-all for under 5k??
Get in line buddy..so would the rest of us.
1986-88 Fiero GT….V6..A real Death Trap( I Love It!) .Annd,1 Hell of alot of FUN. and,..No room for hitch-hikers.Don’t believe the Myths about the Fiero.I was looking for 1 for a little while before I found the one I liked…They’re out there. If you call the Seller without seeing the car,The 1rst question you should ask the Seller is.What’s with that puddle of Oil under your car??.If the Seller says..What are you talking about,My car doesn’t leak any Oil..Go get it..Fast!!
And..You can still get the parts for the Fiero if you need them.
OF COURSE YOU CAN get a nice used sports car for about 5K in the US, if you’re patient and pick a good car.
I don’t want to be rude, but as some people were to you in their answers, I’ll be too, with them: I’m amazed at how some ignorant people just blurt out their opinions, when they don’t have any experience to back them up: do this research as soon as I figure out all you can eat diet and still lose weight thingy Get in line buddy..so would the rest of us. COME ON, PEOPLE! If you don’t know the answer, to certain question, DON’T answer it!!!
Now, to answer your question, I’ll give you an answer, just like some of the other nice and REAL suggestions there (the Nissan 300Z, the Camaro Z28, the Fiero GT, etc)…
I’ll tell you about A CAR I ACTUALLY BOUGHT, I DROVE FOR A WHILE AND THEN SOLD. And I sold it only because I urgently needed cash to pay something, which now I regret.
And BTW it has all you’re looking for: The price (I paid about $5k for it, in March this year to an Asian individual seller in California, who had taken very good care of the car, but had to change of location), the speed and acceleration and the fuel economy, plus a super-impressive looking and beautiful car. Ready? TA-DAAA
A 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS-T!!!
Ferrari red color, of course, black convertible roof, turbo, gray leather/vynil seats, spoilers all over the car (sides, front and rear), a 4-cylinder beauty that accelerates like crazy, you almost feel like flying.
The car I bought had some 120,000 miles, a recently repaired engine (with an even 130 compression read for each piston), a beautiful original unblemished general paint, and the only problem it had (not when I bought it, because I found that out later) was the convertible roof engine, which I had oiled up and repaired with a convertible-roof -expert friend, for about 100 bucks, and then it worked better than new!!!
You should check it yourself by doing a search at either cars.com or autotrader.com
And I’ll tell you, none of the pictures you’ll see there will compare with the way one of those cars (specifically the Spyder turbo black convertible roof Ferrari red color with spoilers all over the car) looks in reality. I don’t exaggerate, when I drove this car side by side with Corvettes any year, recent Porsches or sports BMWs, people stared more at mine than at those cars, I’m not lying! And many a time I left exotic super-expensive cars behind, when just moving forward after a stop light.
It could be kind of difficult though, to find a 1997 Spyder GS-T in very good shape like the one I bought at $5,000 or less, I was kind of lucky, but I am sure the exact same one, only 1996, is more likely to find. Also, if you want to sacrifice some acceleration to fit in your budget, get the 1997 Spyder GS (non-turbo); you’ll impress people the same, only maybe you will not be able to out-accelerate some powerful sports cars, like you would with a turbo.
Good luck man, If you want some photos of the car I used to have, I can email them to you, when you see those, you’ll want to get a car like that, I’m totally sure!!!
