  • EASY this 1 ,, go buy a toy boat and SHOW HIM, he will understand better that way, and he can take it 2 school and show the others how it works

  • It’s called Archimedes Principle. If an object weighs less than the water it displaces it floats. Displaces means the water it has to push out of the way. Think of it as a balance scale. If the water weighs more the boat rises, if the boat weighs more it goes down.

  • the boat pushes down on the surface of the water with a force equal to the weight of the boat.

the water (in compliance with Newtons 3rd law), pushes up on the boat with a force equal to the weight of the water that is displaced (Archimedes as explained by previous answerer).

when you launch the boat, it settles into the water until it has displaced water that weighs the same as the boat, and thats the depth at which it floats.

Put something in the boat, it floats a little deeper. Throw something overboard, it rises a bit.
